HomeView could double as a HomeKit security camera, shows code

Apple's code sleuth, pdfu, has uncovered evidence indicating that the HomeView device may possess HomeKit security camera capabilities. The code reveals multiple options for implementing this feature, with Apple implementing robust privacy measures. Software version 27.2 of HomeView includes settings to utilize the built-in camera for both live streaming and recording.

Users can choose when this feature activates, whether the household member is present, absent, or asleep. Similar to other Apple products, the device incorporates strong privacy protections, such as an indicator light and sound to alert users when the security camera function is active, along with notifications for household members.

Importantly, if any members are inside the home, the security camera cannot be activated remotely, only through the HomeView app itself, potentially preventing domestic abuse scenarios. This addition to the device's functionality may increase its appeal and value for potential buyers. The privacy features in place are notably comprehensive.
