Hackers Can Easily Hijack Systems Running Popular Remote-Control App

Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) has issued a warning regarding a high-severity vulnerability in TeamViewer remote-control software. This flaw, identified as CVE-2026-111585, could enable attackers to execute arbitrary code on targeted systems. The vulnerability, which has a CVSS severity score of 8.8, stems from an integer overflow issue in how TeamViewer processes remote-control screen data.

A successful exploit may result in a denial-of-service condition, trigger system crashes, or allow attackers to execute unauthorized code with privileges of the affected viewer process. TeamViewer clients on Windows, Linux, and macOS versions earlier than 15.83, as well as TeamViewer Portable for Windows and certain Android versions, are affected by this flaw.

However, TeamViewer version 15.83 and later, as well as specific legacy branches, have patches to resolve the issue. National CERT advises organizations utilizing TeamViewer for remote access, technical support, and system administration to identify and promptly upgrade to the latest applicable versions. The advisory recommends restricting remote-control sessions to approved users and trusted devices, validating connection requests, reviewing access privileges, and monitoring remote-session records alongside endpoint security alerts.

Organizations are also encouraged to retain connection logs, authentication records, and endpoint security data to aid in investigations into suspicious activity. If compromise is suspected, affected devices should be assessed, remote access restricted or disabled where necessary, and specialist incident-response assistance sought.

The National CERT stressed that exploitation of this vulnerability requires a remote-control session with an attacker-controlled or compromised host, rather than occurring automatically.
