Google commits $160m to water infrastructure for MY data center
The water treatment plant will supply 65 million liters of drinking water a day once operational.
Google is allocating US$160 million (~RM651 million) towards the development of water supply infrastructure in Negeri Sembilan. This investment aims to facilitate the construction of a data centre campus in Port Dickson while simultaneously improving water supply for nearby communities. In partnership with the state government of Negeri Sembilan and the local water utility Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan (SAINS), Google has enlisted Gamuda Berhad to supervise the construction of an off-river storage reservoir and a new water treatment plant.
Upon completion, the latter will be capable of producing 65 million litres of treated water daily, catering to domestic, commercial, and data centre needs. Situated along the Linggi River, the reservoir will collect surplus river flow and rainwater during peak water availability periods. In addition to storing water for times of low river flow, it will also act as a flood mitigation basin for surrounding areas.
Once finished, both facilities will be owned by Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan (Incorporated), a state-owned entity responsible for managing government assets. This infrastructure will support Google's upcoming data centre campus at the Springhill Industrial Park in Port Dickson.
