Ellen DeGeneres Tearfully Remembers Longtime EP Matt Wright in Video to Fans: ‘It’s Just Shocking’

Ellen DeGeneres paid heartfelt tribute to her late executive producer, Matt Wright, in a video shared with viewers on Monday, expressing her shock and grief over his sudden passing on Friday. During the emotional statement, DeGeneres highlighted Wright's exceptional character, describing him as "amazing," "funny," and one who "surprised me with things that he did all the time."

She recalled their shared moments working together, noting that "everybody loved him" and that it was "shocking" to lose him. Wright, who was part of the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" team from 2006 to 2022, passed away in what his family described as an "unfathomable tragedy" in Los Angeles. To facilitate Wright's return to New York City for his family, they've launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover transportation and funeral expenses.

The tribute video also included a poignant connection between Wright and fellow co-host "tWitch," as DeGeneres mentioned their closeness and the fact that they are both now reunited, dancing and laughing. The tribute concluded with a montage of memorable moments Wright shared on-screen during his time on the show, ending with the message, "We love you, Matt."
