Audit Reveals Over Rs. 3.58 Billion in Financial Irregularities in KP

A comprehensive audit of departments under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has uncovered significant financial irregularities totaling over Rs. 3.58 billion. The report unveiled several troubling findings, including:

Contracts approved through questionable and non-transparent processes amounted to over Rs. 1.205 billion. Excessive payments totaling Rs. 908.1 million were made for development and construction projects. Additionally, unauthorized expenditures exceeded Rs. 600 million.

The audit also identified financial losses of more than Rs. 378.5 million due to the failure to address contractor violations of contractual agreements. The audit encompassed the initial phase of compliance checks for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Out of the 28 Principal Accounting Officers (PAOs) chosen for examination, 14 administrative departments were subjected to audit scrutiny.

According to the report, Rs. 117.09 million has been recovered between January and December 2025. Audit officials have confirmed this recovery.
