Adrian Hamilton-Manns appointed new PIA chief executive officer

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) appointed Adrian Hamilton-Manns as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Monday. The board praised Hamilton-Manns, noting that he has "a wealth of leadership and strategic experience within the global aviation sector." His appointment is seen as a "pivotal chapter" in PIA's ongoing transformation.

Hamilton-Manns has managed three airlines as CEO, and his expertise in transforming and reviving airlines is well-known, with over 30 years of experience. The consortium and management board expressed gratitude to the outgoing CEO, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Amir Hayat, for his "outstanding service and dedication" during his four-and-a-half-year tenure.

Under Hayat's leadership, significant structural reforms, operational efficiency improvements, and preparations for privatisation were initiated. With Hamilton-Manns at the helm, PIA expects his extensive industry expertise to accelerate strategic objectives, elevate service standards, and drive sustainable profitability. Hamilton-Manns previously served as CEO of Oman's SalamAir and Kazakhstan-based FlyArystan, as well as held roles at South African Airways and Virgin Australia.

PIA was privatized in December, with a consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation Limited winning the auction for 75% of shares. The Arif Habib-led consortium, which has been in charge since June, aims to transform the loss-making airline through operational restructuring, fleet expansion, and improved customer service.
