7th Energy Commission SHS Renewable Energy Challenge Held In Kumasi

The Energy Commission organized the 2026 Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge in Kumasi. The event aimed to inspire young people to engage with renewable energy, science, technology and innovation. Seventeen schools, divided into the Southern and Northern Zones, participated. The top three schools from each zone will compete in the Grand Finale in Accra.

Mr. Chris Nana Banyin Yalley, Acting Deputy Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, emphasized that the challenge teaches students about practical solutions to energy challenges, confidence building and problem-solving. He encouraged students to think creatively and see themselves as future innovators and engineers in Ghana’s energy sector.

Mr. Emmanuel Ocquaye, representing the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, highlighted that the competition promotes students moving from theoretical knowledge to practical solutions. He stressed that Ghana needs learners who can solve community problems and develop sustainable solutions. The six-year impact assessment will measure the schools' progress in energy transition, STEM education, institutional sustainability, community engagement and peer learning.
