Governor Otti warns against attack on opposition as LP kicks off campaign

Governor Alex Otti has commenced the Labour Party's campaign for the 2027 elections in Abia, cautioning against the closure of public facilities to opposition candidates and supporters. Speaking at the Umuahia township stadium, the Governor affirmed that his administration would not demolish any property owned by individuals who identify with the opposition parties.

Otti's assurance comes after he issued an order to ensure that opposition parties can freely utilize public amenities, including the stadium where he stood. He emphasized that individuals who have paid the requisite fees for these facilities should not be barred from their use. Otti reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the rights of his political opponents, vowing that his administration would not engage in vindictive practices such as the demolition of his supporters' fences, a measure undertaken by the previous administration.

The Governor welcomed his opponents in the upcoming 2027 race, highlighting the democratic principle that the Abia populace enjoys the right to choose their representatives. Otti called upon the local stakeholders of the Labour Party to ensure a successful campaign in their respective regions. In his address, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, urged the House of Assembly to be dominated by the Labour Party to avert potential impeachment proceedings against Governor Otti.
