DAP mahu minit mesyuarat pengampunan bersyarat Najib didedah kepada umum

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has approached Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim requesting that details of the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Najib Razak be made public. Loke Siew Fook, Chief Secretary to DAP, stated that while the party hopes the relevant meeting with the Federal Transparency and Protection Board (FTPB) will be classified, the decision is ultimately left to the Attorney General.

Loke informed media during a press conference that DAP acknowledges the conditional pardon for Najib has raised many concerns and believes that a person involved in a major corruption scandal should not be granted house arrest. Former Prime Minister Najib Razak was imprisoned in August 2022 following the Supreme Court's maintenance of his sentence for misuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and conversion of zakat funds worth RM42 million.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million. In January 2024, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Shah changed half of the sentence and reduced the fine to RM50 million. In September, Sultan Ibrahim granted Najib a conditional pardon again, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine and adherence to additional conditions.

Najib still has not paid the fine despite Umno launching fundraising efforts to help him settle the amount. Loke emphasized that DAP supports coalition agreements and the Election Commission's (CSA) partnership with six United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) MPs, but reiterated the party's concern for equal treatment for all parliamentary members.
