Beed: Copper Worth ₹8.1 Lakh Seized In Parli; Shopkeeper Booked

In a late-night operation near Parli city's flyover, police confiscated 540 kilograms of copper strips, valued at ₹8.10 lakh, in nine sacks. The seizure occurred around 12.45 am on Saturday, under the jurisdiction of the Sambhajinagar police station. The suspect, Shabbir Akbar Kakar, a 47-year-old resident of Kakar Mohalla in Parli, was apprehended with the copper strips.

Kakar, who runs a local shop, was booked under the Maharashtra Police Act for not explaining the ownership and origin of the copper. The copper strips, weighing around 60 kg each, were packed in nine white bags, with each sack holding approximately 60 kg of the metal. Based on the current market rate of ₹1,500 per kg, the total value of the seized copper was estimated to be ₹8.10 lakh.

Assistant Police Inspector Pradeep Gond conducted the search and made the seizure in the presence of two independent witnesses. Since Kakar failed to provide valid documentation or a satisfactory explanation regarding the copper's source and ownership, a non-cognizable complaint (No. 225/2026) was registered under Section 124 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
