Kuala Lumpur: After FIFA discovered falsified documents used to support the qualification of seven foreign-born Malaysian players for international matches last September, the seven players who were suspended for 12 months by the international football governing body (Fifa) are now allowed to resume their careers starting today.

The Malaysian Football League (MFL) confirmed the suspension suspension ruling via a statement on October 30, which officially ended the suspension of the involved players yesterday. MFL Executive Committee Chairman Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd confirmed the contents of the statement and shared it on social media. "Yes, true," he said when contacted by Bernama.

According to the statement, the seven players involved are Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Gabriel Palmero, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel. Four of these players, Figueiredo, Palmero, Irazabal, and Hevel, will represent Johor Darul Ta'zim, while Holgado nearly joined DPMM FC as confirmed by the club from Brunei prior to this.

The issue involving the seven players came to light last September when FIFA found falsified documents used to support the eligibility of the seven foreign-born players to represent Malaysia in international matches. In late March, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) partially accepted the appeal from the seven players concerning the suspension imposed by FIFA due to false naturalization documents and eligibility.

In their detailed operational decision, CAS decided that the seven players in question remain suspended for 12 months, but only for official matches and not all football-related activities.
