Tame Impala Take On Seal’s ‘Kiss From a Rose’ for Like A Version

Tame Impala unveiled their Halloween cover of Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" on Friday, October 30, for triple j's Like A Version series. In their Sydney studios, the band transformed the 1994 ballad into a stripped-back, synth-driven rendition, followed by a pared-down version of their hit "Dracula." Kevin Parker, Tame Impala's lead vocalist and guitarist, shared that the Seal track was the first CD he ever purchased, which introduced him to artists like U2, the Flaming Lips, and Nick Cave.

This cover marks Tame Impala's fourth Like A Version contribution, joining OutKast's "Prototype" (2013), Kylie Minogue's "Confide in Me" (2015), and Edwyn Collins' "A Girl Like You" (2021). The Australian radio station's Like A Version project reached a significant milestone this year. Their "Dracula" single became a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 5, and also topped the Pop Airplay and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts, as well as spending over six months atop the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs list.

The band recently concluded their biggest Australian tour to date, with the album "Deadbeat" leading next month's ARIA Awards with eight nominations, tying them with Genesis Owusu. After their Australian tour, Tame Impala is set to return to the road in May 2027 for UK and European arena dates, followed by summer festival appearances.

Seal's original "Kiss From a Rose" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a week in August 1995 after its placement in the Batman Forever soundtrack and won three Grammys the following year, including record and song of the year. Watch Tame Impala's cover of "Kiss from a Rose" below.
