Sanwo-Olu: Hamzat Stepped Down for Me in 2018 without grudges

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that his deputy, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, willingly stepped down for him in 2018, signifying a display of loyalty and selflessness. Hamzat, who had 13 years of public service experience under former governors Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola, was considered a strong contender for the governorship before party leaders requested his departure.

At the unveiling of Hamzat's 2027 governorship election manifesto, titled 'The Lagos Promise', Sanwo-Olu recounted how Hamzat accepted the decision without resentment and agreed to serve as his running mate five weeks later. The governor praised Hamzat's character, commitment, and leadership capacity, emphasizing the strong bond they share built on trust and a shared vision.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted their successful collaboration during his tenure, including the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of the Lagos Blue and Red rail lines, and the inauguration of the Lekki Deep Sea Port. He also acknowledged Hamzat's engineering background and experience in government, noting his crucial contributions to essential infrastructure projects.

Sanwo-Olu argued that Hamzat's selection as the APC's candidate symbolized continuity in the state's development trajectory rather than an inexperienced leader. He urged Hamzat to maintain existing initiatives, tackle outstanding challenges, and introduce new policies when required. The governor expressed his confidence in Hamzat, urging APC members to disseminate the manifesto to residents across Lagos.
