Doha will soon be home to MIHAD, a new contemporary art and design gallery located within the Doha Design District, opening its doors to the public on November 4. Initiated by QC+, the gallery aims to showcase artists and designers from Qatar, the broader region, and around the globe, linking their work to collectors and audiences through the theme of "Living with Art and Design".
The gallery will provide opportunities for the purchase and commission of artworks and design pieces, as well as a diverse lineup of exhibitions, talks, workshops, and public events exploring the impact of creativity in daily life.
According to QC+ CEO Kirstin Mearns, MIHAD is founded on the belief that exceptional art and design require a supportive home with a strong perspective. The gallery's opening exhibition program, running from November 5 to December 31, will feature three exhibitions: "rooted/ elsewhere", "Beyond the Letters", and "Traces of the Desert Light" by the Sanae Collective.
Each exhibition delves into distinct themes, such as the influence of landscapes on memory and identity, Arabic and Persian typography, and the interplay between light, materials, and traditional craftsmanship.
"rooted/ elsewhere" will showcase works by six artists across various mediums, including photography, textiles, and mixed media. This exhibition will explore how landscapes shape personal memories, identities, and a sense of belonging, coinciding with the Qatar, Canada, and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture. "Beyond the Letters", in collaboration with the Design Doha Biennial 2026, will focus on Arabic and Persian script through audiovisual installations, performances, textiles, sculpture, jewelry, and experimental publications.
Curated by Ali Asali and Basma Hamdy, alongside VCUarts Qatar, the exhibition will investigate the cultural and historical dimensions of typography beyond the printed page. "Traces of the Desert Light" will present works in textiles, ceramics, sculptural seating, and wood, highlighting craftsmanship, traditional techniques, and the cultural memories carried by handmade objects.
Curated by Tine De Beck, this exhibition will emphasize the importance of traditional methods and the stories embedded in handmade items.
To complement the gallery experience, MIHAD will present a culinary program. From November 4-15, Mexican chef Elena Reygadas, recognized as "The World’s Best Female Chef" by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2023, will showcase signature breads and pastries from her Mexico City bakery, Panaderia Rosetta, at MIHAD Cafe. Additionally, the cafe will feature ceramics by Mexican designer Perla Valtierra, whose creations explore the relationship between materials, form, and everyday use.
Selected pieces from the exhibition will be available exclusively through MIHAD Cafe. This launch is part of a broader cultural initiative linked to Qatar’s Years of Culture program, which fosters cultural exchange between Qatar and nations worldwide.
