I’d choose these earbuds over the Pixel Buds Pro 2 every time, for one simple reason

If earbuds don't quite fit right, they quickly get annoying. OPPO has taken on Google, and for me, beaten it.

I’d choose these earbuds over the Pixel Buds Pro 2 every time, for one simple reason

Writing about the OPPO Enco X4 earbuds has been a pleasure. The design, sound quality, and functionality are top-notch. However, the fit wasn't perfect for me with the Pixel Buds Pro 2. After trying the OPPO Enco X4, everything finally fell into place. The earbuds have never felt as secure in my ears as the Pixel Buds Pro 2, and the eartips never created a perfect seal for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).

I had to fiddle with one earbud over the other to find the right balance between comfort and seal. I even swapped eartips, but it wasn't enough. I shouldn't have to invest in third-party eartips just to ensure the earbuds fit me properly. While ear shapes differ, I frequently switch between various earbuds, and the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are the toughest to achieve a great fit with.

I tolerate the Pixel Buds Pro 2's fit issues due to their compact size, decent sound quality, and the ability to chat with Gemini live. The earbuds are great for brainstorming out loud and getting instant feedback. I prefer using the earbuds over smart speakers because I can move around the house. OPPO has a proven track record of producing high-quality earbuds and audio products.

The Enco X4 are equipped with a dual-driver system featuring an 11mm woofer, a 6mm tweeter, and a dedicated DAC for tuning frequencies. They also incorporate Dynaudio for sound refinement and Hi-Res Audio, LHDC Lossless when paired with the Find X10 Pro Max, ANC with AI-enhanced adaptive mode, three microphones, AI Live Translation mode, Bluetooth 6.1, dual connection, and various other features, including IP55 dust and water resistance.

The OPPO Enco X4 have a classic earbud design with a curvy body and a short stem. They nestle comfortably in my ear, staying securely in place with a light twist. The eartips are soft, pliable, and have a wax guard inside, requiring minimal adjustments to maintain their position. The earbud nozzle is stadium-shaped, making it challenging to find third-party eartips that fit.

However, I'm not concerned since the fit is excellent. Compared to the Pixel Buds Pro 2, the OPPO earbuds stay put without causing fatigue. The earbuds come in an oval-shaped case that holds 13 hours of use on a single charge without ANC and a total of 53 hours with the case's battery. I've used them with both the Find X10 Pro Max and an Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max, and transitioning between the two devices has been smooth and reliable.

The Hey Melody app allows customization of settings and sound, available for both Android and iOS. The arrival of the OPPO Enco X4 coincided with the release of NMIXX's Strange Muse and IVE's Looks Can Kill mini-albums. The difference in sound quality between the Enco X4 and Pixel Buds Pro 2 when connected to different phones was striking.

They sound good with an iPhone but are fantastic when paired with the Find X10 Pro Max, offering more volume, body, and punch. The Enco X4 sound superb on NMIXX's Birthday Wish, letting me appreciate the power and flow of the members' voices with a crescendo that tingles at high volume. Fine-tuning the Enco X4 using the Hey Melody app proved challenging.

While the High Vocal mode suited NMIXX's Birthday Wish, the BassWave mode needed to be active at a low level to round out the sound. Overpowering the Enco X4 was too easy, though. Snakeskin by IVE sounded best with the Thundering Bass setting activated. Even without BassWave, the bass response wasn't precise enough. However, with careful EQ adjustments, the Enco X4 sound fantastic.

The AI Live Translation feature with Gemini on the Find X10 Pro Max worked well, albeit with a slight delay in hearing Gemini's replies. This delay was never experienced with the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Overall, the OPPO Enco X4 are incredibly comfortable and secure, a significant improvement over the Pixel Buds Pro 2's annoyances. Once I fine-tuned the audio, they sounded just as good as the Google earbuds, especially when connected to the Find X10 Pro Max.
