Fanfic Hub Archive of Our Own Faces Weeks Offline
Archive of Our Own, one of the world’s biggest fanfiction sites, went down hard.
In October, the fan-run fiction site Archive of Our Own experienced a series of disruptions that evolved into a multi-week shutdown, leaving millions of users unable to access the platform. The site, operated by the Organization for Transformative Works, had initially reported that service restoration would take around 2 weeks but could extend to 4 weeks.
The organization posted an update on its status page and shared the information via Bluesky and Tumblr. However, it appeared that the outage was not connected to the PHP patch emergency from earlier in the month. Instead, the magnitude of the disruption caught users off guard, similar to a Looney Tunes anvil falling from the sky.
For those seeking a temporary alternative to satisfy their fanfic cravings, Wattpad or FanFiction may serve as suitable options.
