Bolsonaro ally blames ChatGPT for now-deleted ’president-elect of Brazil’ claim

Sao Paulo, Oct 29 - Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro's close ally, influencer Paulo Figueiredo, suggested on Thursday that an AI chatbot, ChatGPT, was responsible for a language error in a letter posted by the right-wing lawmaker claiming to be Brazil's rightful president-elect. The letter, posted on social media, was deleted shortly after it was published and replaced with a revised version using the term "leader of Brazil."

According to Figueiredo, the chatbot inserted an outdated version of Brazil's coat of arms and used a previous draft of the letter, resulting in the inclusion of an earlier version of the text where Flavio presented himself as the true 'president-elect.' Bolsonaro's younger brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, allegedly sought ChatGPT's help to finalize the letter.

Figueiredo stated that the mistakes were noticed only after the letter was distributed to the press and that those involved found the mistake "hilarious" and described tweaking the letter as "nothing major." The senator, who arrived in Miami after refusing to comply with a Supreme Court order to turn in his passports, maintains that the election was illegitimate and that he will continue fighting to restore democracy in Brazil.
