On October 29, residents of Paju, South Korea reported hearing propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts from North Korea along the inter-Korean border. The broadcasts began at 6 a.m. and lasted for about four to five hours. The volume was relatively low, but the sounds were audible from the early morning. The North Korean leader's sister, Kim Yo-jong, had warned on October 22 that such broadcasts would be conducted along the border within the month.
South Korean military and intelligence officials, however, have not detected any signs of North Korea operating the loudspeakers and have assessed the reports as erroneous. The North Korean leader's sister had also threatened military action against South Korean troops over firing warning shots at North Korean soldiers crossing the border.
