Reddit is adding a 'for you' feed for recommendations
The app will have a "following" tab to surface content from subreddits you've joined.
Reddit is introducing a new "for you" feed designed to provide personalized content recommendations. This new section, which will be distinct from the existing "following" feed that displays posts from subreddits users have joined, aims to surface algorithmically generated content. By splitting the main feed into these two categories, Reddit intends to emphasize recommended posts and encourage users to explore communities and conversations they might otherwise overlook.
The company believes this change will enhance user engagement and make it easier for casual users to return to the platform. CEO Steve Huffman has expressed his desire to surface more relevant posts, even those that are older, to better cater to user interests. Additionally, Reddit is testing video and audio versions of popular posts, some of which date back several years.
While these multimedia elements are not currently available in a full-screen, scrollable feed like TikTok, Reddit plans to continue experimenting with new navigation features and gather user feedback to refine its recommendation system.
