Anggota maut kejar Pati, APMM buat siasatan dalaman

Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia (APMM) will conduct an internal inquiry following a fatal accident involving one of its members in the waters near Kuala Perlis, Malaysia, last Friday. Deputy Chief Operating Officer Mohd Zawawi Abdullah revealed that the inquiry aims to identify any weaknesses or areas for improvement in standard operating procedures while conducting operations.

"For every operation carried out by APMM, we have specific SOPs, and our members are always reminded to adhere to them," he said, according to Bernama. Speaking after the funeral of APMM risk member Mohd Roshaimi Mohd Ridzuan, 41, at Masjid Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah in Kuala Nerang, Zawawi added that the internal inquiry will also determine other improvements, including necessary training and equipment for APMM members during operations.

"The inquiry is usually carried out as soon as possible, and it may take several weeks to complete. We want to identify possible areas where SOPs can be improved to benefit APMM members in the future and prevent similar incidents from happening again," he explained. Zawawi emphasized that the incident will not weaken the spirit of APMM members, but rather serve as motivation, especially for those who work on the field to continue their responsibilities in safeguarding national waters.

In the meantime, Zawawi stated that his agency will ensure the welfare of the deceased's wife and two school-going children, providing support according to existing procedures. On the night of the incident around 11 pm, Mohd Roshaimi died while three others sustained injuries after the boat they were boarding was reportedly colliding with a concrete structure in the waters near Kuala Sungai Padang near Kuala Perlis.

When the incident occurred, they were reportedly chasing a boat suspected to be carrying unauthorized foreign visitors.
