Trump insults Norway and rejects its immigrants for not giving him the Nobel Peace Prize

On Sunday night, Donald Trump harshly criticized Norway, calling it "a shithouse country." This came as he lamented the repeated snubbing of his own name for the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump, who has been involved in numerous conflicts, including a war with Iran and the ousting of Venezuela's leader, has frequently touted his peacemaking efforts, claiming to have mediated at least eight disputes during his presidency.

However, he was notably overlooked for the award twice: in 2025 for Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, and in 2026 for South African jurist Navi Pillay, both for their contributions to peace and international law.

During a campaign rally speech in Port Huron, Michigan, Trump lashed out against immigration, singling out Norway for particularly harsh criticism. "Norway, I don't think so because I didn't get the Nobel Prize even though I ended it," Trump remarked, implying that his peace efforts were not recognized. He contrasted Norway unfavorably with Denmark, a country he deemed more welcoming, saying, "We work with Denmark, good country, good nice country. Anybody that would like to come into our country from Denmark, I'm all for it."

The criticism of Norway was not unprovoked. Trump did receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025 for María Corina Machado's efforts, for which she presented him with the medal during a White House meeting. Despite this, Trump expressed a clear disdain for Norway, stating, "I don't want anybody from Norway. I don't want anything to do with Norway."
