OLED iPad mini 8 vs iPad mini 7: Apple's tiny tablets compared

The eighth-generation iPad mini marks Apple's latest update to its smallest tablet, introducing an OLED Super Retina XDR display. While the OLED screen is the main attraction, there are a few other changes to consider, such as performance improvements. Both the iPad mini 7 and the new 8th-gen model share the same 7.69-inch dimensions, with the 8th gen being slightly narrower at 5.22 inches and 0.21 inches thinner than the previous version.

The lighter weight of the OLED-equipped model is a welcome change, with the Wi-Fi version at 0.56 pounds and the cellular model at 0.58 pounds. The display itself is an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel, providing better brightness, contrast, and battery usage than the previous LED-backlit LCD. The resolution remains the same, with 326 pixels per inch, but the new 8th-gen model offers slightly more screen real estate.

The camera setup remains unchanged, with both models featuring a 12MP Wide camera on the back and a 12MP Center Stage camera on the front. The A17 Pro chip powers both models, with the 8th-gen model receiving a multi-generation jump in chip production technology. While the A20 Pro chip in the 512GB model is slightly more powerful than the A17 Pro, performance benchmarks are not yet available.

Overall, the eighth-generation iPad mini appears to be a compelling upgrade from the iPad mini 7, thanks to its new OLED display, improved performance, and updated features.
