‘South Africa has betrayed Tambo’: Madlanga slams corruption and violence against women

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nkwanta South constituency of the Oti Region has temporarily halted voting for the Women's Organiser and Organiser positions due to concerns over discrepancies in the electoral process. The main issue is the omission of incumbent candidate Celestine Abasa's name from the voters' register.

This has raised worries among her supporters who believe this could negatively impact her electoral chances. Initially, Abasa was listed as the second candidate on the ballot paper, but this order was later altered without proper justification. She also expressed concerns about her name not appearing on the voters' register, which further complicates the voting procedure.

The Elections Director of NDC, Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal, has urged delegates and supporters to remain composed while efforts are underway to rectify the issues. He clarified that voting for the other positions would proceed as scheduled while the concerns related to the Women's Organiser position are addressed. The suspension is anticipated to persist until the discrepancies in the electoral materials and voters' register are rectified, ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.

The incident underscores the critical importance of precision in the preparation of electoral materials and the rigorous verification of voters' registers to sustain confidence in constituency elections. The Oti Regional Organiser, Sulemana Mumuni, also called upon delegates and supporters to demonstrate restraint while the necessary corrections are being implemented. Around 1,484 delegates are scheduled to participate in today's vote.
