Mumbai Records 50th Deceased Organ Donation Of 2026 At Apollo Hospital, 51st Follows In Thane

Mumbai documented its 50th deceased organ donation of 2026 on October 22 when the family of a 52-year-old woman allowed her organs to be transplanted at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai. The woman, who had suffered a brain haemorrhage and was later declared brain-dead, was referred to the hospital after treatment failed. Her mother, after counsel from the hospital, consented to organ donation, potentially saving five to six patients.

The woman, a former air hostess, had previously expressed her wish to donate her organs to a friend, a decision her family supported. Apollo Hospital's doctor Dr Divya Kuckian urged for increased public awareness about organ donation, noting the high demand for organs and the loss of lives while waiting for suitable matches.

The donated organs included the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and tissue, with one kidney used at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, and the rest allocated to hospitals in line with state guidelines. On the following day, October 23, Mumbai recorded its 51st deceased organ donation at Jupiter Hospital in Thane. The liver, kidneys, and bone tissue of a 41-year-old woman, also declared brain-dead, were donated. As with the previous donation, the distribution followed state guidelines.

These two consecutive donations underscore the necessity to raise public awareness about organ donation, aiming to close the gap between the demand and supply of organs. To explore exclusive and budget-friendly property deals in Mumbai and nearby areas, visit https://budgetproperties.in/.
