2027: 'Vote APC all the way' – Tinubu begs Nigerians for second term

Tinubu addressed a rally in the northern state of Kaduna, asserting that the economic issues faced by the country were primarily the work of his opponents. He blamed them for creating hunger and poverty, asserting that his administration was working to resolve these problems.

Tinubu will face a multitude of opposition candidates in the presidential election scheduled for January. The front-runners include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Both have previously contested presidential elections and have strong support among Nigeria's youth population.

In 2023, Tinubu made headlines by abolishing the long-standing government subsidy on gasoline, a decision that has contributed to the country's economic distress. The move has been criticized for causing the Nigerian Naira to plummet in value and leading to widespread hardship. Despite this, Tinubu remains confident about his prospects, promising prosperity and growth to the Nigerian electorate.

Political analyst Majeed Dahiru cautions that Tinubu's chances are not assured, citing public discontent over his economic policies. However, he emphasizes that the election is far from a foregone conclusion, with the 2023 results indicating that the outcome is far from predictable.
