Pakistani University Secures Prestigious European Mathematics Recognition

The Government College University (GCU) Lahore's Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences (ASSMS) has been honored by the European Mathematical Society (EMS) as an Emerging Regional Center of Excellence (ERCE) for the period of 2027-2030. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the school's exceptional research capabilities and its crucial role in advanced postgraduate education, marking a significant milestone for the institution, which first earned the distinction 15 years ago in 2011.

The decision to bestow this status upon ASSMS was made during the October meeting of the EMS Committee for Developing Countries and was conveyed to the institution by committee chair Prof. Cónall Kelly.

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry credited the achievement to the institution's recent reforms and initiatives, lauding Prof. Dr. Khurram Shabbir and his team for their outstanding contribution. Prof. Chaudhry hailed this development as a monumental achievement for both the university and Pakistan's academic community, reaffirming GCU's unwavering dedication to enhancing its national and international standing in higher education and research.
