Obuasi SHTS headmaster rape case sent to Attorney General’s Office

The Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) headmaster, Mr Zakaria Abdulai, is facing an alleged rape charge, according to the Ashanti South Region's Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). DOVVSU forwarded the case docket to the Attorney General's office, who will study and advise on the matter. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Llyod Baidoo made this announcement on Thursday.

On August 4, 2026, a 20-year-old Form Two student at the school, accompanied by her father, reported the incident to the Obuasi DOVVSU. The victim alleged that Mr Abdulai had forced sexual intercourse upon her in his official bungalow on campus on July 25, 2026. She also stated that she had gone to a designated area near the headmaster's residence to remove her clothes to follow his instructions, but he lured her into his residence instead.

The victim described Mr Abdulai caressing and fondling her against her will before dragging her into his bedroom and having intercourse with her. Afterward, she was given GH¢100 to remain silent.

Police investigations began immediately, including medical examinations, scene reconstruction, photography, and witness statements. These steps have been completed, and the case has been forwarded to the Attorney General's office for further review. The police have vowed to exhaust all efforts to uncover the truth and maintain a peaceful environment for students and staff.
