Browns’ Todd Monken reveals bold Deshaun Watson ceiling bet that could push Shedeur Sanders out
Todd Monken explains why the Browns bet on Deshaun Watson’s ceiling over Shedeur Sanders, and what it means as trade buzz builds.
Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken revealed his belief that Deshaun Watson's peak performance could surpass that of former starting QB Shedeur Sanders. This statement has put pressure on Sanders, who has now hired an agent and could face trade talks as the deadline for moves approaches. Monken's decision to prioritize Watson's ceiling over Sanders' past performance led to a 4-2 start for the team.
Notably, Watson led four drives that put the Browns ahead late in games. One crucial moment came when Watson was introduced to the crowd after a booing incident, which reportedly boosted his confidence. Despite Watson's Achilles surgeries and a tumultuous off-field history, Monken acknowledged his quarterback's ability to make clutch plays. The offense's challenges will continue as they face the 1-5 Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
