Barcelona hopeful versatile star can return for El Clasico against Real Madrid

Barcelona remains optimistic about versatile defender Jules Kounde potentially rejoining the team for Sunday's El Clasico against Real Madrid, as reported by Ramon Salmurri on Catalunya Radio. The French player has been recuperating from a left ankle sprain sustained during Barcelona's 5-2 victory over Real Betis. Kounde was sidelined from the trip to Paris Saint-Germain due to the injury. His availability for the big match hinges on his progress over the next few days.

The inclusion of Kounde would provide a timely solution to Barcelona's defensive woes, which have been exacerbated by injuries. Eric Garcia is expected to be out for several weeks with a thigh issue, leaving manager Hansi Flick with limited options. Kounde's return would give Flick a valuable experienced defender and versatility on the field.

However, the decision rests on Kounde's fitness assessment. Even a spot on the bench would offer Flick an additional selection option in case of tactical changes during the game. Barcelona will need to carefully evaluate Kounde's recovery before deciding his involvement in the high-stakes Clasico match.
