A little bit of everything: Stover's versatility a key factor in explosive West Morgan offense
Oct. 22—TRINITY — West Morgan's Kylen Stover has one job: Do everything. The senior athlete has become a jack of all trades for the Rebels this year on the gridiron and it's paying off in a massive way. "The coaches have asked me to move around a lot this year and so it's just something I've taken head-on," Stover said. "Whatever they ask me to do, whatever they think is gonna help the team ...
Trinity, October 22 - West Morgan's versatile player Kylen Stover has become a crucial asset to the team's explosive offense this season. Stover, a senior, has taken on the role of a jack of all trades, moving around to fulfill whatever task the coaches deem necessary to aid the team's success. He has excelled in receiving with 24 catches for 361 yards and seven touchdowns, while also contributing significantly as a rusher with 56 carries for 550 yards and eight touchdowns.
Stover's defensive contributions are equally noteworthy, boasting six pass breakups despite playing defense only half the time.
West Morgan head coach Drew Phillips has been impressed with Stover's all-around abilities, comparing him to a former star of the team, Jalen Fletcher. In 2022, Fletcher earned second-team All-State honors as a running back but shifted to multiple roles in 2023, leading to a highly effective offense that led the state in scoring.
Phillips believes Stover is making a comparable impact this season, attributing the team's explosiveness to the emergence of a talented quarterback, Brantley Phillips, and a downfield passing attack.
Stover remains optimistic about the team's prospects, noting that their ability to run and pass effectively makes them dangerous opponents. As they prepare for postseason play, Stover hopes to add one more skill to his repertoire, echoing the success of his former idol, Jalen Fletcher, by passing for a touchdown.
