In France, looters have been seen storming Apple stores during protests, leaving the establishments almost empty. The chaotic scenes also include cars being set ablaze, as the unrest continues in cities like Bordeaux, Lille, and Marseille. The protests initially began over overcrowded schools with inadequate staffing, but have since escalated to include luxury retail theft.
It is reported that stores like Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Apple were targeted. Authorities have arrested around 1,200 individuals, with estimates of protest participants ranging from 550,000 to 800,000. French President Emmanuel Macron has denounced the violence, vowing to prosecute offenders. It is noted that the stolen Apple products have a kill switch that renders them unusable once they leave the store's Wi-Fi range.
