NASA astronauts Anil Menon and Joshua Kutryk are gearing up for the first of two spacewalks to install roll-out solar arrays on the International Space Station. The spacewalks are scheduled for Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, with the potential to increase the station's power generation by up to 30 percent. Prior to the spacewalks, the crew members spent time organizing tools, inspecting tethers, and cleaning spacesuit helmets.

They also outfitted their suits with communications gear, medical monitoring hardware, and other components, and conducted spacesuit fit checks to account for body changes in microgravity and ensure astronaut comfort. Meanwhile, Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina were testing the effects of microgravity on breathing by wearing an acoustic sensor that recorded their rapid exhalation rate. The airway sound recordings will be sent down to Earth for analysis.
