British eVTOL startup Skyfly Technologies has secured €8.91 million ($10 million) in seed funding to bring its two-seat Axe electric aircraft to market and develop the Longbow unmanned defense system. The round was led by HICO Investment Group, with participation from Archangel, a €50 million early-stage fund focused on next-generation defence technology.
Skyfly, founded in 2019 and based in Oxfordshire, designs both manned and unmanned aircraft for civilian and defence markets. Its Axe boasts a range of over 100 miles, 100mph cruise speed, and no runway requirement for takeoff or landing. The Longbow is a hybrid-electric unmanned aircraft for cargo resupply, intelligence and surveillance, medevac, and ship-to-shore logistics missions.
Both aircraft will be manufactured at Skyfly's 10,000 sq.ft. facility in Oxfordshire. The funding will go towards FAA Light Sport Aircraft certification for the Axe under the new MOSAIC rules, scaling manufacturing, and accelerating Longbow development. The company has already completed over 100 piloted flights and has 61 orders from private customers globally.
