Anthropic unveils Claude Duet, a proactive agent app on iOS, Android, and the web that works in the background, in research preview for US Pro and Max users (Claude)

Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, an innovative app that functions as a proactive agent across iOS, Android, and web platforms. Available as a standalone application, Claude Duet is designed to assist professionals and small business owners who are overwhelmed with daily tasks. The app is currently only available to those on Pro and Max plans, and users can join the waitlist to gain access.

Claude Duet works in the background, alerting users to important tasks and completing them without further input from the user. It checks in with users before acting on their behalf, ensuring that sensitive information is not leaked. Claude Duet's security measures include a new dedicated classifier and safety system prompt, which scrutinizes each message to prevent unauthorized sharing of sensitive data.

Users retain control over their information, with Claude Duet only sharing strict tiers of data when explicitly authorized.

The app is equipped with a virtual machine featuring its own browser, enabling users to execute tasks without needing their laptop or phone constantly on. Users can provide Claude Duet with tasks ranging from simple administrative tasks like scheduling meetings to complex ones like building dashboards, creating financial forecasts, and prototyping web applications.

Claude Duet reads, drafts, and prepares work autonomously, but requires user approval before sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting any data.

Claude Duet can integrate with over 6,000 connectors and plugins from the Claude Marketplace, allowing users to manage their businesses using various tools and services. It can even assist with purchasing items for businesses using Link, Stripe’s digital wallet, and Shop Pay from Shopify. In the future, Claude Duet will be able to sign into websites using saved logins in 1Password.

During the research preview, Claude Duet is sharing usage limits with the main Claude app, ensuring that both applications operate within the same limits. The developers encourage early users to share their experiences and feedback, which will shape how Claude Duet and the main Claude app evolve together. Currently, Claude Duet is an independent app, separate from the main Claude application, but the insights gathered during the preview will guide future integration.
