Trump envoy Witkoff to meet Zelenskyy in Oslo before planned Putin talks in Moscow

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, plan to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Norway this week for negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to Reuters, Zelenskyy expects to participate in these talks, which come amid growing tensions between Washington and Kyiv.

The Ukrainian government believes a political decision made by the U.S. is responsible for a slowdown in support. This includes restrictions on the SpaceX' Starshield military satellite system, delays in missile deliveries for Patriot air defense systems, and limitations on intelligence sharing. These issues, according to the Ukrainian side, have impacted their ability to effectively combat Russian forces, leading to civilian casualties.

The White House has not yet commented on the planned meeting, while Reuters notes that the schedule for the trip is preliminary and subject to change. A source mentioned that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth had yet to approve the delivery of a final package of weapons procured by NATO allies under the PURL program, though it was unclear if this package included missiles for the Patriot system.

The Pentagon did not respond to inquiries, and U.S. officials have previously disputed Kiev's claims. On the other hand, President Trump accused Zelenskyy of avoiding peace talks with Russia, suggesting it was time for a different negotiator. Last week, Reuters reported that the directive to restrict Starshield's operation came from the White House, with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk confirming that these systems are controlled by the U.S. government.
