The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has instructed its candidate for Juaben Constituency, Mr Zakaria Abdulai, to withdraw from the race while an investigation is ongoing, according to a statement released on October 20, 2026. The decision comes after the party's Functional Executive Committee (FEC) reviewed the allegations made by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The NDC emphasized that this is not a verdict on the allegations but rather a step to ensure transparency and accountability in the electoral process. The statement, signed by the party's General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, underscores the party's faith in the impartiality of the CID's probe. The NDC has also notified the Ashanti Regional Election Committee and the Juaben Constituency Election Committee of this change.
As a result, Mr Abdulai's candidature is currently under review until the police investigation concludes.
