Tinubu mourns ex-Delta gov Uduaghan, recalls political role after leaving office

President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, recalling his significant contributions to the state's political and socio-economic affairs even after leaving office in 2015. In a condolence message, Tinubu highlighted Uduaghan's continued involvement in democratic governance and public service following his two terms as governor.

"After his tenure as governor, Dr Uduaghan continued to feature prominently in Delta State’s political and socio-economic landscape, contributing to the sustenance of democratic governance and the advancement of public service in Nigeria," stated Tinubu. Uduaghan, who passed away at the age of 71, held various roles including commissioner for health and secretary to the state government before his election as governor in 2007.

Tinubu also reminisced about Uduaghan's earlier public service, emphasizing his commitment to the state's development and welfare during his eight-year tenure. "During this period, he pursued developmental strides to improve infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and the overall welfare of Deltans," Tinubu noted. Reflecting on Uduaghan's legacy, Tinubu urged Delta residents to draw strength from his years of public service and the relationships he forged across Nigeria.

He extended condolences to Uduaghan's family, including his wife, Roli; his children; his cousin, former Governor James Ibori; and friends and political associates. Tinubu concluded by expressing deep sympathies and praying for Uduaghan's eternal rest.
