Three children aged 4, 9 and 10 found dead in Murang’a swamp

Three children aged four, nine, and ten years died in a suspected drowning incident in Murang'a County, Kenya. The bodies of Natalia Wambui, Jamal Mwangi, and Asafa Baraka Njeri were discovered in a swamp on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Residents were alerted by their children who noticed children's clothes near the swamp but couldn't see the children.

Upon reaching the scene, residents spotted one child's body floating in the water, leading to the discovery of all three bodies. The children's mother and aunt reported seeing the children leaving for church in the morning. Police found no visible injuries on the bodies and documented the incident before transferring the bodies to a mortuary for preservation.

Postmortem examinations are underway to determine the cause of death. Separately, another drowning incident occurred in Lolgorian Township, Narok County, where a four-year-old boy drowned in an open pit filled with water after attending a morning mass with his father. The circumstances surrounding both incidents are under investigation.
