Pokémon Officially Returns to Galar in 2027 for New Release
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is coming to Disney Plus, as is the classic Pokémon anime, in a new streaming deal.
The Pokémon Company and Disney are collaborating on a new streaming series called "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu," which will debut on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney Plus in 2027. This stop-motion animated adventure series, created by Aardman Animations, follows the journey of Sirfetch'd and Pichu as they explore the Galar region of Pokémon Sword and Shield.
The series aims to provide a fresh, playful perspective on the beloved Pokémon world through the lens of Aardman's signature stop-motion animation style. Aardman Animations, known for their works such as Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, joined forces with Pokémon in 2024 to bring this new project to life. Disney Kids & Family President Ayo Davis emphasized the series' significance, stating that Pokémon has a unique ability to resonate with both longtime fans and new audiences.
Pokémon Director of Original Animation Phil Rynda also expressed excitement about the series, highlighting the opportunity to showcase the Galar region in a new and immersive way through the innovative filmmaking of Aardman. The new series will complement existing Pokémon content on Disney Plus, including the classic anime series "Pokémon the Series: The Beginning" and later seasons available on Hulu.
