Obama stated that Omar's role as a fierce critic of the Trump administration made her a frequent target. The former president alleged that the administration tried to deport Omar based on an unsubstantiated claim about her citizenship status.

He warned that this could set a dangerous precedent for future administrations to target political opponents.
