Obama accuses Trump of targeting Omar over political views

Former US President Barack Obama has accused President Donald Trump's administration of targeting Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar due to her political criticism, describing the alleged deportation attempt as an assault on American democracy. Obama stated on his verified X account that the government should not target individuals based on their political beliefs or statements.

He emphasized that this was precisely the action the Trump administration was taking against Omar, a Minnesota Congresswoman who arrived in the US at the age of 12 and became a naturalized citizen at 17. Obama highlighted her impressive career, including her role as a community organizer and the first Somali-American woman elected to public office in the United States.

He alleged that the administration had raided her home, seizing personal records and her phone, in an attempt to find evidence to support their claim that she was not a US citizen. Obama warned that such actions by any president or administration could set a dangerous precedent, potentially leading to future presidents targeting political opponents.
