Netanyahu basks in Trump’s endorsement week before election
The Israeli prime minister published a video of the two leaders praising each other after Donald Trump endorsed him ahead of the Oct 27 vote.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu basked in Donald Trump's endorsement just days before the upcoming election. On Monday, Trump publicly endorsed Netanyahu, predicting a "terrific victory" for him. In a video call, Netanyahu emphasized their "job to finish" together, hinting at future joint actions against Iran. Trump, despite recent tensions with the US, hailed Israel as its "greatest friend" and praised Netanyahu for joining in the recent attack on Iran.
However, Trump's approval rating in Israel plummeted following his April agreement with Iran, which is now crumbling. Experts suggest Trump's endorsement may have limited impact, as Netanyahu is a polarizing figure with few undecided voters. The endorsement came amid open tensions with top US officials, including Vice President Kamala Harris's criticism of Israel over the Iran war.
Netanyahu's potential new coalition government may work on normalizing relations with Arab and Islamic states, as reported by the Israel Hayom newspaper.
