KR (Korean Register) launched a pilot service of its Cyber Resilience Platform (KR-CRP) in Busan on October 13. The event attracted nearly a hundred attendees, including executives from major Korean shipping companies and ship managers, as well as representatives from SI, security, and IT solution firms. The pilot service aims to simplify compliance with IACS UR E26, which mandates cyber resilience design documents for ships.

KR-CRP provides a digital platform to prepare and manage the required design documents, streamlining the process for shipowners and shipyards. The platform is integrated with KR's drawing approval and classification survey procedures, reducing the burden of documentation and approval. The seminar covered international regulations and response measures for ship cyber security, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 on information security management systems, and standard procedures for shore-based managers.

A demonstration showcased how KR-CRP can utilize data from onboard security monitoring systems developed by third parties, facilitating data-driven class surveys and reducing survey preparation time. KR also unveiled plans for an internal collaborative framework to ensure swift and systematic responses to ship cyber incidents. The Statutory System Certification Team, responsible for ISM and ISPS Code audits, will serve as the primary contact for incident reporting, followed by joint technical analysis, recovery support, vessel safety verification, and survey assistance.

Feedback collected during the pilot service will be used to enhance KR-CRP's functionality and usability, further bolstering the industry's cyber resilience and adherence to international regulations. Yongsok Lee, Chairman & CEO of KR, emphasized the growing importance of cyber resilience as ships and shore-side systems become increasingly interconnected. He stated that KR will continue to provide practical, technology-driven services like KR-CRP to ease the compliance burden and enable safer operations at sea.
