Golden Island delivers world’s largest ethanol bunker stem in Singapore

Golden Island became the first operator to deliver a record-breaking 5,000 metric tons of ISCC-certified bio-ethanol to a Maersk ship in Singapore. The operation was carried out by Golden Island's IMO Type II chemical tanker, Golden Centaurus, which supplied the ethanol while the ship's containers were being handled. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported this to be the largest single bunker operation of ethanol ever conducted.

This volume is nearly double the 2,800 metric tons of bio-ethanol delivered by Repsol to the Antonia Maersk in Barcelona in July. The record-breaking delivery was announced during a bunker conference in Singapore last week. The MPA stated that the operation will generate valuable data to evaluate how Singapore's current methanol bunker standards could be modified for ethanol bunkering and whether the existing Mass Flow Meter (MFM) systems can be utilized for future ethanol bunker operations.

Prior to the operation, the involved companies conducted a safety workshop, utilizing their experience in methanol bunkering to train crew members on handling ethanol and responding to emergencies.
