On the latest episode of his "Fly on the Wall" podcast, Dana Carvey weighed in on the controversy surrounding Shane Gillis' joke about women's athletic wear during his "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) monologue. Carvey claimed he didn't understand the controversy, stating that Gillis was joking and not literally referring to women as "whores."
Carvey also noted that the sketch series' Studio 8H was not the appropriate place for such a joke, as it featured mostly young women in the audience. He hypothesized that the joke may have been more successful in a comedy club setting, which he noted had destroyed before Gillis performed it on SNL.
