ATPI Greece marks 50 years at the heart of global crew changes

ATPI Greece is commemorating its 50th anniversary this month, highlighting a half-century of service to the Greek and international shipping industry. The Athens-based office now manages a significant 35% of ATPI Marine Travel's global marine business, with over 130 dedicated professionals catering to clients worldwide. Since its establishment, ATPI has facilitated approximately 2.4 million crew changes, reflecting its commitment to the maritime community.

The company's growth parallels Greece's position as a leading shipping hub, with its roots tracing back to a specialized travel business founded in the 1970s under the Griffin Travel brand. In 2015, ATPI acquired Griffin Travel, solidifying its position in the global marine travel sector. Today, the Athens team, under the leadership of Nikos Gazelidis, Chief Commercial Officer, and Managing Director Greece & Cyprus, is celebrating its heritage and adaptability.

The business has evolved from a specialized Greek operation to one that supports global shipping clients, adapting to the changing logistics of crew changes, including advancements in technology and data management. Despite these changes, the company remains committed to the expertise of its personnel, recognizing their crucial role in navigating the complexities of the maritime industry.

ATPI Greece's dedication to the community is further evidenced by its recognition as one of Greece's Best Workplaces, underscoring its commitment to employee well-being. The recent acquisition by Direct Travel in 2025 marks a new chapter in the company's 50-year journey, blending its specialist knowledge with Direct Travel's extensive global capabilities.

As ATPI Greece looks forward, it continues to play a pivotal role in bridging Greece's maritime expertise with the needs of an increasingly global maritime sector.
