Truck drives through soccer field during game in Kansas, killing 2 and hospitalizing 11

WICHITA, Kansas — A woman driving a truck struck a soccer field during a youth game on Saturday, resulting in two fatalities and 11 hospitalizations, authorities reported. The victims included a six-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man, while the ages of the injured ranged from five to 68, according to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses.

The driver, a 34-year-old woman, has been taken into custody, though authorities have not yet determined if the incident was deliberate. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Two children were also present in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Wichita Chief Joe Sullivan praised the quick response of individuals who provided critical care to the victims before medical professionals arrived.

"It was truly amazing," Sullivan stated, adding that the incident highlighted the resilience of the Wichita community. Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing public threat. Mayor Lily Wu expressed her condolences, asking residents to stay away from the scene while investigators continue their work. The mayor's statement conveyed a sense of profound sadness, stating, "My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected."
