Truck drives through soccer field during game in Kansas, killing 2 and hospitalizing 11

A tragic incident unfolded at a youth soccer game in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday, leaving two individuals dead and ten others hospitalized, according to police reports. Among the casualties was a six-year-old boy, while a 35-year-old man lost his life at the scene. The victims were pronounced dead immediately following the incident, which occurred at the Stryker Sports Complex.

The driver of the vehicle responsible for the tragedy was a 34-year-old woman, who remains in custody and is cooperating with investigators. Police Captain Aaron Moses stated that the injuries sustained by the victims ranged from minor to severe, with none being life-threatening. The truck, driven by the woman, crashed into the sports complex and came to rest in a nearby field.

Police Chief Joe Sullivan emphasized that while the cause of the incident is known, the motive behind it is yet to be determined. Among the injured were two young children aged five, two aged eight, a nine-year-old, and five adults, along with one adult suffering from non-traumatic medical issues. The driver had been present at the complex with her young child, though he clarified that he was not present on the field where the accident took place.

Emergency services began receiving reports of the incident at 3:25 p.m. local time. Wichita Mayor Lily Wu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, noting that families had gathered at the Stryker Sports Complex to enjoy a typical Saturday afternoon, completely unaware of the impending catastrophe.
