TerraForge Studio — Open-Source AI Terrarium CAD & Side-Hustle Engine

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle Empowering botanical micro-businesses, terrarium artisans, and plant side-hustlers with local open-weight AI, interactive vector CAD, and deterministic microclimate simulation. TerraForge Studio is an open-source AI-powered computer-aided design (CAD) workspace, biological microclimate simulator, and commerce co-pilot designed for boutique terrarium artisans, micro-botanical shop owners, and plant craft side-hustlers. The platform tackles three major challenges faced by botanical micro-business owners: biological trial-and-error, wholesale margin and supplier exposure, and SaaS subscription fatigue.

TerraForge Studio offers an interactive SVG vector CAD canvas where users can pick glass vessels, adjust substrate depths, and drag-and-drop living specimens with real-time scale, rotation, and layering controls. The deterministic bio-compatibility engine calculates optimal humidity, light levels, and ecosystem stability, warning users before they pair incompatible flora.

Additionally, a commercial unit economics calculator helps artisans tabulate raw materials, labor costs, and output retail pricing and net profit margins.

The platform utilizes local open-weight AI, providing zero cloud API fees, generating Etsy SEO listings, printable botanical care passports, and pre-shipping pathology audits. Users can access TerraForge Studio directly through the demo live deployed app at https://terraforge-studio.vercel.app or clone the GitHub repository at https://github.com/Dev-Suraj-Dhawal/terraforge-studio. The complete source code is modular, zero-dependency, and open-source under the MIT license.

I wrote a script that counts the work AI-written commits cost you afterwards. It says 13 hours on my own repo.

I build software — games, plugins, client work — and most of the code is written by a model and reviewed by me. Last night I wrote a read-only script that goes through git history and asks one…

  • Developer created script to calculate time spent on AI-written commits
  • 9 out of 13 commits in developer's repository were AI-written
  • Tool offers transparent ledger of hours spent on each commit

I Don't Need Smart AI to Build Apps. Here's Why.

I stopped reaching for the most capable model for every app. With TDK CLI, the infrastructure is already decided, so a simpler agent only has to get the application logic right.

  • Advocate for simpler agents over advanced AI models for app building.
  • TDK CLI simplifies infrastructure setup and reduces complex prompts.
  • Three prompts provided for using a simpler agent with TDK CLI.
