LocalInvoiceAI is an AI-powered invoice extraction and management app that empowers freelancers, independent professionals, and small businesses to streamline their invoice processing. By utilizing a locally running AI model, users can upload invoice documents and effortlessly extract structured information, including invoice numbers, dates, vendor details, subtotals, taxes, and totals.
The app offers key features such as PDF and image support, human-in-the-loop review, financial validation, a local SQLite database, a dashboard for viewing invoices and summaries, and the ability to search and export records to CSV files. LocalInvoiceAI was developed by combining traditional document processing with local AI inference, using Python, Streamlit, Ollama, Qwen2.5 3B, Tesseract OCR, pypdf, and Pillow as part of its tech stack.
The primary goal of this project is to make invoice processing more convenient and accessible, without relying on cloud AI services. By utilizing open-weight models through Ollama, the application grants users control over where inference runs and enables them to develop and test the application on their own computers without relying on a single hosted AI provider.
This open innovation approach allows for experimentation and adaptation, ultimately turning a repetitive business task into an application that users can easily run and customize.
